Family photo posing ideas.

Having your family’s photographs done is an amazing way to bring your family closer together and to share your family’s love for each other to those outside of your household. The sad truth is most of us don’t have our family photos taken very often, therefore knowing how to pose for family photos can seem to be stressful. We are here to assure you that having your family photos taken can be a stress-free and exciting experience. Here are some family photo posing ideas that will help make your next family photoshoot a relaxing loving experience.

Standing pose for family photos.

Standing is a simple and natural way of starting out your photoshoot. It is an easy way to get everyone relaxed and used to taking directions. While standing may seem like a simple pose, it can connect you in interesting ways. It could be leaning on one another with arms around someone’s waists, head on a shoulder, or a holding embrace. Small children can wrap their arms around mom or dad’s legs. For naturally looking family portrait poses, not everyone needs to be facing the camera – mix it up by having the little ones turn and hug mom or dad.

Seated pose for family photos.

Seating down is another simple pose that can offer different looks to your photoshoot. Bring everyone down to the ground, brings everyone closer together and interacting with each other more. Kids could be sitting in parents’ laps or laying their heads in your lap. Parents can sit back-to-back each holding a child in their laps or sit side-by-side holding each other with the little ones standing behind you. Throughout the pose, you can all look at the camera for the more classic pose look or for a more natural candid look, you and your family can interact with each other as you would on a day-to-day basis.

Perspective

Getting a different perspective is another way to get poses that are more unique than your traditional poses. Get your family in a pile and play, tickle, and do whatever you would normally do to get laughing reactions from your family. Getting low to the ground and having your photos taken from above you, create lasting pictures that are unique to your photoshoot.

Candid family poses.

These are the easiest poses to do. The only thing you have to do is just be yourselves! Interactions in your family photos is a natural way to avoid awkward, lifeless family photos and capture natural connections instead by prompting interactions. Walking with one another, swinging the kids in your arms, telling jokes to get those big genuine smiles and laughter. Bring your children up to your height by picking them up and snuggle them close. Interact with one another and forget the camera is there. Your photographer will do all the work walking around and capturing those special moments between your family.

Posing for family photos isn’t rocket science and shouldn’t be stressed over as such. Posing for your family pictures is all about the connections and capturing memories between you and your loved ones. Capturing the interactions between your family members should be simple and natural. You shouldn’t try and force any poses that don’t represent how your family normally interact with each other, doing so could result in photos that look unnatural and add stress to your day.

Your family photoshoot should be all about the time that you and family get to spend together. Your photographers will help you throughout your photoshoot and be guiding you through the posing process. You shouldn’t ever have to ask, “where should I look?” or “what should I do with my hands?”. You should spend your time thinking about your family and creating memories and stories that can be told years later.
